Morning session: Gymnasium
9:00 am: Ice-breaker activity with mentors while everyone arrives
9:30 am: Welcome and Introductions, schedule for the day - Mr. McKinney
9:40 am: Student mentors
10:00 am: Guest Lecturer – Mr. Bob Radnick
10:20 am Counselors and Nurse
Student Log-in numbers and acceptable use of technology – Mr. Andrade
10:30 am: Break and move to the Science Building
10:40 am: “Virus in a cup activity” - Mentors
11:30 am: Lunch - cafeteria
Afternoon session: science building
12:15 pm Mentor-led scavenger hunt/tours of campus; 20-minute presentation by school librarian, Mrs. Marilyn Dudley will be incorporated into the tours.
2:00 pm Regroup from scavenger hunt in gym for “Bullying Presentation”.
2:30 pm Medline Plus activity – Viva Peer Tutors – interactive where students Log-on computers. Science rooms.
3:30 pm Bus
Tuesday June 8, June 15, July 13
Morning session: science building
9:30 am: Student mentors assist students in organizing notebooks/planners. Log on computers to explore STISD and Med Tech Websites.
10:00 am sheep heart dissection (5 science rooms)
11:30 am Lunch (mentor led door prizes @12:05 pm)
Afternoon session: science building
12:15 pm Blackboard assignment - body-mass index (BMI) and Body Fat % activity
2:00 pm EKG and Fish Tail Activity and discuss research questions
3:30 pm Bus
Wednesday June 9, June 16, July 14
Morning session: science building
9:30 am: Student Mentors- recap from yesterday/discuss day’s activities
"Vocabulary Activity"
Introduction to research and projects (data collection, etc…)
10:00 am Blackboard assignment -Target Heart Rate activity
11:30 am Lunch (mentor led door prizes @12:05 pm)
Afternoon session: science building
12:15 pm Student mentors organize groups: discussion of health survey, computer generated projects (PowerPoint presentations and written report) and overview of statistics. Write a hypothesis.
12:45 pm Development and administration of surveys; begin developing PowerPoint presentations; application of statistics to survey data.
3:15 pm Student mentors- debrief-research discussions
3:30 pm Bus
Thursday June 10, June 16, July 15
Morning session: science building
9:30 am: Student Mentors- continue with PowerPoint presentations and group research papers.
11:30 am Lunch (mentor led door prizes @12:10 pm)
Afternoon session: gymnasium
12:45 pm Move to Gym
1:00 pm Presentations (5 min/group)
3:00 pm Awards/refreshments
